TANDBERG BACKGROUND Tandberg was established in 1979.It is based in California, although they are publicly traded on the Norway Stock Exchange. They now have one of the largest market shares in the DC600 arena, with the data storage business of Tandberg Data is growing at more than 50% per year. Their products are positioned as being durable, with the panther 250 providing MTBF of 20,000 hours. This is reflected in their prices, these being at the higher end of the QIC-150 price spectrum. They have no intention of moving further up the market, into the DAT market, they are committed to the QIC format. They offer software solutions, packaging their hardware with Sytos Plus, Cheyenne Software, ARCserve or Retrospect. Stac's algorithm has been encorporated into their drives. DISTRIBUTION Tandberg Data Inc., has concerntrated on major OEM deals in the past, supplying companies such as IBM, DEC, Siemens/Nixdorf, Bull and Altos. In November'91 it shipped its first retail products for the Mac market. It has also just announced Rhino Sales Company as a key distributor for its Panther tape drives. Rino sales is a leading supplier of computer systems to VARs in the Great Lakes Region and specializes in networking and UNIX applications.
